Hello My Name Is: David Freund

Hi everyone,
I'm David Freund i am currently a senior at Cal. State San Marcos and studying the field of Kinesiology. I was born in Japan (raised as a military brat) but did most of my growing up in San Francisco and San Diego. I went to kindergarten and first grade in a school called Treasure Island Elementary School while i lived on the naval base also named Treasure Island. This place was rad to grow up in because we were located in the middle of the San Francisco Bay and could see the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island from my back yard.  I moved to San Diego in 2nd grade and have been here ever since. I attended elementary school at Westwood Elementary School, middle school at Bernardo Heights Middle School, and High School at Rancho Bernardo High School.

Seeing as how this course is primarily about technology i do not think i will be having too many issues with it. Technology and myself usually get along pretty well, as long as it doesn't get too advanced. I can find my way around most computers. I suppose i am most comfortable with a PC but mostly that is due to the fact that I have been using a PC since 2nd grade. Recently I have gotten an Apple computer as well so this class will be very nice in helping me figure out how to use that computer properly.

After reading the College of Education Mission Statement I can see that this school is dedicated to improving the degree of teaching within the public school system. It is a good goal to educate teacher candidates into becoming better teachers, however i do not feel that the college does a good enough job in making this mission statement heard by all. The first time i was introduced to this education statement i was well into my 3rd year of college. As a result it had no role in me choosing Cal State San Marcos for my education. I chose San Marcos because it was the only school within in my range of affordability and i simply got lucky that it offered a field in teaching. So here i am ready to learn and hoping to become a good teacher some day in the future.

  1. hey,
First of all let me say that you have a really cool background. I will have to agree that the college needs to improve in making the mission statement hear by all because the same happened to me. I am lucky that CSUSM, offers a field of teaching.

  2. Hey there! Treasure Island sounds pretty awesome! I just read the mission statement for the first time for this assignment. Granted it is my first semester, I am impressed with what it stands for and I feel all teachers should aspire to live up to that. What do you want to teach??

  3. Hello David,
I was a military brat as well. Being one does have its advantages. I lived on a Marine base in Hawaii most my childhood, and my backyard was the beach.

  4. I agree with you, the cal state San Marcos needs to improve in making the mission statement. Just like you, the first time I was introduced to the education statement was in my third year of college. So, the mission statement did not have anything to do with my choice of choosing this school. My choice was also a money issue.
